We partner with the Virginia Harm Reduction Coalition to provide a seamless continuum of care for people facing substance use and behavioral health crises in Martinsville and Henry County.
VHRC specializes in harm reduction, overdose prevention, outreach, and peer engagement — while Confident Care delivers mobile crisis response for acute mental health and substance use crises. Together, we make sure people get immediate, lifesaving support alongside clinical crisis intervention, ongoing stabilization, and connections to long-term treatment, recovery, housing, and community resources. The result is fewer unnecessary emergency room visits, better outcomes, and a stronger behavioral health safety net across the region.

We’re proud to partner with the MHC Pride Coalition in support of LGBTQ+ individuals and families across Martinsville and Henry County.
Rooted in a shared commitment to affirming, trauma-informed care, this partnership helps ensure that every person, regardless of identity, has access to compassionate, culturally responsive support in their most vulnerable moments. The Pride Coalition brings deep community trust through advocacy, peer support, and education. Confident Care adds mobile crisis response for people experiencing acute mental health or substance use crises. Together, we work to break down barriers to care, encourage early intervention, and make sure LGBTQ+ community members receive dignified, inclusive support in the least restrictive environment possible.

Austin’s Second Chance and Confident Care Mobile Crisis are sister organizations with a single mission: making sure individuals and families across Southwest Virginia have the full spectrum of support they need — from the moment of crisis through long-term recovery and self-sufficiency.
Confident Care provides licensed mobile crisis response — immediate assessment, de-escalation, stabilization, and coordination of continued care. Austin’s Second Chance takes the longer view, offering prevention, education, workforce development, mentorship, peer support, and community-based programming that address the conditions that so often come before or after a crisis.
The connection is intentional. People who receive crisis intervention through Confident Care can be connected directly to Austin’s Second Chance as they rebuild — and those already with Austin’s Second Chance have immediate access to our clinical services if a crisis arises. No one falls through the gap between acute care and community support. Beyond the immediate crisis, this partnership addresses the things that shape it — housing, employment, education, and belonging — walking alongside people toward lasting resilience and independence.
